A 30-year old man, Adewale Olakusi, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl (name withheld) in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this to journalists on Sunday, said the suspect was arrested on Saturday following a complaint by the father of the victim.
He said the father reported at Onipanu Division that the girl told him that Mr Olakusi raped her but warned her against telling anyone.
He said the daughter spoke to him after he noticed her unusual demeanour and loss of appetite.
“Upon the report, the DPO Onipanu Division, SP Sangobiyi Johnson, detailed detectives to effect the arrest of the suspect who happened to be living in the same house with the parents of the victim,” Mr Oyeyemi said.
The police spokesperson said upon interrogation, Mr Olakusi confessed to the crime but said it was the devil’s handwork.
He said the victim was taken to hospital where medical report confirmed she was raped.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered the transfer of the suspect to the Anti -Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for proper investigation and prosecution.
‘The Commissioner of Police also appealed to members of the public to always take the well-being of their children serious, especially the female ones,” he said.
